Tectona Decking

Wood-polymer composite is the best substitute for wood.

It is generally accepted all over the world that products made of wood-polymer composite are far superior to natural wood in terms of their quality and aesthetic characteristics.

Why is this the case?

By way of comparison:

The service life of wooden coatings – does not exceed 5 years, while the coating of decking can last 10 years or more. The cost of the primary treatment of one square meter of natural larch board only with special impregnations will be at least 450-500 rubles, not counting the subsequent annual treatment of the board. Boards made of wood-polymer composite require neither primary nor annual special treatment.

Installation of both coatings is made with conventional carpentry tools, but the installation of decking is much faster, thanks to specially designed hidden fasteners.

Besides, decking does not fade, leave splinters, absorb/release moisture, is easy to clean and wash, and looks and smells like natural wood. That’s why the choice of material for a modern deck, as well as for areas near swimming pools, playgrounds, operated roofing, yacht decks and piers is obvious – decking from wood-polymer composite. Or just decking.

Why is decking so good?

In the production of wood-polymer composite wood flour is used, mainly from soft wood. Also, such a well-known polymer as polyethylene is used, although some manufacturers of WPC believe that polypropylene has greater prospects for the further development of this production.

To maintain the optimal qualities of the polymer composite, its composition must contain at least:

  • 70% wood flour;
  • 27 % low and high pressure polyethylene;
  • and at least 3% of special additives that improve the technological characteristics of composite products

Carefully selected additives increase the wear resistance of the wood-polymer composite, protect it from premature aging as well as from fading, improve the appearance and simplify the processing of the material.

When all the components are crushed and mixed in the right proportion, they are placed in a special extrusion equipment. At the first stage, a coaxial twin-screw extruder, under high pressure and high temperatures, mixes materials properly, simultaneously with mixing, the material is completely degassed (removal of unwanted dissolved gases or captured gas bubbles from devices and substances). In addition, the material gets rid of the moisture of wood flour.

Then, in a second extruder, through specially designed dies (nozzles) that give the material its final shape, the resulting liquid compound comes out, is cooled and cut to a specific length. At the final stage of WPC production, its final processing takes place, in which the upper “baked” smooth layer of the products is removed on special grinding machines, as a result of which the product is given an aesthetic appearance.

The resulting material has the best characteristics of its constituent elements. Thanks to wood flour, the wood-polymer composite has a noble texture and smell of natural wood.
In its turn, polyethylene, which is a part of the decking, makes it easy to take care of products made of such material, does not allow it to absorb or release moisture. Dust and dirt do not adhere to the decking, and snow does not stick to it. In addition, it practically does not fade under ultraviolet rays.But the most important advantage, which is vested in this material, is its durability and lack of need for primary and periodic treatment of boards and other elements with special coatings.

Both aesthetics and practicality are combined in all WPC products. The front surface of WPC decking boards has longitudinal grooves, which give the board an attractive appearance and also prevent slipping.

All WPC decking boards are double-sided, with each side having its own unique pattern.
The difference between the sides is represented by a different number of grooves, or lack thereof. Where there are a lot of grooves, the pattern looks like a fine corduroy, where there are fewer grooves – a coarse corduroy, and respectively without grooves – the board remains smooth, with the imitation of the texture of the natural wood.

The double-sided board allows you to dismantle and turn the boards upside down after use, thereby renewing the patio without any extra cost. The unique system of hidden fasteners makes it very easy and quick to mount and dismantle the flooring.

Other WPC products, such as elements of fences: poles, balusters and railings, with a special treatment are also given a unique pattern, completely imitating the wood texture.
Visually, such elements and assembled structures are indistinguishable from natural wood.

All products made of wood-polymer composite have high density and strength, geometrical stability, have water-repellent properties and are not susceptible to damage by insects, bacteria and fungi.
