Terrace board Tectona

Tectona – best replacement for wood.

It is generally accepted all over the world that products made of wood-polymer composite are vastly superior to natural wood as compared to their quality and aesthetic features.

Why this is so?

For comparison:

The service life of a wooden covering does not exceed 5 years, while a Decking covering can serve for 10 years or more. The cost of primary treatment of one square meter of natural larch wood  board only with special impregnations will be at least 450-500 rubles regardless of subsequent annual treatment of the board. Boards made of wood-polymer composite do not require any primary or annual special treatment.

Assembly of both coverings is carried out using ordinary carpentry tools, however, assembly of  Decking is much faster, thanks to specially designed hidden fasteners.

Additionally, Decking does not fade, is resistant to spliters, does not absorb and release moisture, it is easy to clean and wash, but it looks and smells like natural wood. Therefore, the choice of material for a modern terrace as well as for areas near pools, playgrounds, accessible roof area, yacht decks and piers is obvious – a terrace board made of wood-polymer composite. Or just Decking.

Why Decking is so good?

While producing a wood-polymer composite, wood powder is used, mainly from soft wood. And also such a well-known polymer as polyethylene, although some WPC manufacturers believe that polypropylene has great prospects for the further development of this production.

To maintain the optimum properties of the polymer composite, its composition should contain at least:

  • 70% of wood powder;
  • 27 % of LP and HP polyethylene;
  • and at least 3% of special additives improving the processing characteristics of products made of composite

Carefully selected additives increase the wear resistance of the wood-polymer composite, protect it against premature aging, as well as against discoloration, improve the external characteristics and simplify material treatment processes.

When all components are crushed and mixed in the required proportion, they are placed in a special extrusion equipment. At the first stage, a twin-screw extruder with coaxial rotation of screws, under high pressure and high temperatures, properly mixes materials, simultaneously with mixing, the material is completely degassed (adverse dissolved gases or entrained gas bubbles are removed from devices and substances). In addition, the material gets rid of the moisture of wood powder.

Then, in the second extruder, through specially developed molds (dies) that give the material its final shape, the resulting liquid composition comes out, is cooled and cut to a certain length. At the final stage of WPC production, its final treatment takes place where the upper smooth “baked” layer of the products is removed on special grinding machines, as a result of which the product is given an aesthetic appearance

The resulting material has the best characteristics of its composite elements. Thanks to wood powder, the wood-polymer composite has a noble texture and smell of natural wood.
Again, polyethylene being a part of Decking, makes it easy to care for products made of such material, does not allow it to absorb as well as to release moisture. Dust and dirt do not stick to Deking, as well as snow does not stick to it. In addition, it actually does not fade under ultraviolet rays. But the most important advantage that this material is endowed with is its durability and the absence of a need for initial and periodic treatment of boards and other elements with special coatings.

Aesthetics and practicality are combined in all WPC products. The front surface of WPC terrace boards has longitudinal grooves which give the board an attractive appearance and also prevent slipping.

All WPC decking boards are double-sided, while each side has its own unique pattern.
The difference between the sides is a different number of grooves or their absence. Where there are many of them – the pattern looks like narrow-wale velveteen, where there are lesser grooves – like wide-wale velveteen, and, accordingly, without grooves – the board remains smooth, with imitation of the texture of natural wood.

The double-sided board enables after operation to dismantle and turn the boards upside down, thereby renewing the terrace at no extra cost. The unique hidden fastening system makes it very easy and quick to mount and dismantle the flooring.

Other WPC products, such as elements of fences: posts, stair posts and railings, with the help of special treatment, are also given a unique pattern that completely imitates the texture of wood. Outwardly, such elements and respective assembled structures cannot be distinguished from natural wood.

All wood-polymer composite products have a high density and strength, aregeometrically stable, water-repellent and resistant to damage by insects, bacteria and fungi.
